NW Iowa | Have a neighbor across the fence from a pasture of ours with downed corn and likely 40 bu/acre of ears on the ground. We are pretty well out of grass and a few weeks away from having our own corn stalks ready to graze. Would work great to open the gate and let them graze it and get water in our pasture. How much risk is there with that much corn on the ground and any way to mitigate it? Had that on some of our ground a few years ago and I cross fenced it to limit how much they could eat. Don't know if did much though because a few acres at a time can be a lot of corn if they went to town. Didn't have a problem at all and they left the winter in unbelievable condition. These are fall cows with calves at their side. | |
