| I spoke with someone at the dealer about an issue with one of my 4X2 gators jumping belts. He indicated that the clutch may need to be replaced. I removed the belt and ran the engine up to fast idle and back down. The clutch appears to move in and out as it is supposed to, but it isn't as smooth as I think it should be. He told me that I need to replace the entire clutch ($390) and that they can't be rebuilt. It's not that I don't trust him, just wanted to verify other's experience.
I just put a new belt on it a few days ago, but I think something (probably a cornstalk) may have gotten between the belt and the sheaves causing it to twist or flip over and subsequently ruining it. I put the old belt back on and it works fine. We run these gators through standing sweet corn when we pick so it's not unusual for something to get caught in the drive belt area.
So, has anyone rebuilt them with any success? I think number 5 in the parts diagram is what I need to make it work smooth, but I haven't taken it apart.
