Subject: Case IH telematics/field ops

Paxton, IL
I just installed a couple PCMs in my planter tractors and had the dealer tech guy out to get them all programmed and configured. Neither of us have much of any experience with the PCMs so it is proving to be a little bit of a learning experience for both of us.

These tractors are both getting some age on them now (Steiger 335 and Magnum 245), and the instructions that came with the kit weren’t very clear about exactly how to hook up the CAN connections in these applications. Both tractors have the factory diagnostic connector which has both the tractor CAN bus and Implement CAN bus on the sam connector, then both also have a separate loose diagnostic connector in the fuse panel area for the display.

Currently I have the primary combo CAN harness with the replicated diagnostic port plugged into the tractor diagnostic port with only the CAN 1 side plugged into the PCM harness. Then I have the separate single CAN harness plugged into the loose diagnostic port and hooked up to the CAN 2 plug on the PCM harness. Can anyone tell me if this is correct, or does the 2nd can line from the combo harness need to be plugged in as well? The instructions say some tractors may use both sides of the combo harness as well as the single harness lugged into CAN 3, but I’m not sure if this is an application like that.

We did get the tractors set up on my field ops account, but I’m not sure what all I should expect out of it. Currently I can see the location of each tractor, last time it ran and an hour reading (although for some reason, 1 tractor is showing about 20 hours more than the A post shows). I’m not sure I’m getting much “real time” info though. I’m not getting anything at all for fuel level or ground speed info in field ops. I saw an engine load percentage when I was moving one tractor, but it seemed to be stuck at the same number for the 10 minutes I had it running and moving around. I understand these are not the newest tractors and therefore some functions may not work in my situation. I also haven’t actually had anything actually running in the field yet to really test it out, but am just wondering if this is “normal” for an initial setup and test, or if there is something still going on with the way we have it configured.
