It's an old site running beyond its designer's wildest dreams. The search was causing issues a couple years ago, slowing the site down where only a handful of people could use it at a time. Killing it to only a year was a temporary fix that has become semi-permanent.
You can search for "agtalk being slow" and find a couple months worth of posts from a few years ago.
