NEMO | I basically agree with everything you said, but I'll paint with a little less broad of a brush. I find the GAR thing maybe useful on a terminal level. You use the example of cowmen sitting in with some swine geneticist, keep in mind GAR uses 2 such people. The thing I worry about is how fast they turn generations,,,sometimes it takes several years for a genetic problem to manifest itself, then what do you do? Keep in mind, I don't use any of these genetics as I'm more maternally minded with selection. While I understand what you are saying about integrity, there are a lot of cattle jock breeders out there raising meaningless breeding stock. In a certain sense, to me, that's worse than GAR trying to move the needle. Once again, remember, I don't use their genetics, but I guess from where I sit, the whole cattle breeding stock deal (all breeds) is kind of a screwed up mess. Lots of big breeders that use the show ring conveniently forget when calves are born. The continental breeds ( Simm, Lim, Gelb) have let a lot of bad Angus bulls infiltrate their gene pool in the name of a black hide. I, like you, see a lot of value in the GrowSafe data, but it's not gaining much, if any traction. The saddest part is, here in MO where the average herd size is what, 18 cows, nobody much cares or understands
