Subject: RE: Bar Joist For Shed?

I spent over 40 years as a commercial industrial general contractor. I have never seen bar joists used on a 4/12 pitch and typically they would be spaced and sized for a steel deck to span between - maybe 6' or so on center. They have to be braced (to prevent overturning) and sized for the load. There's no way to put a column in the middle. For your span, it seems wood trusses might be a better choice

You would save yourself a lot of potential problems down the road if you talked to an engineer or even a joist supplier about your plans instead of AgTalk. Would be money well spent if you're trying to make your own design.
