There are many options - a basic furnace that will save money now and cost you down the road - to - fancy ones now that cost now but will save money down the road. It depends on what you want for comfort and what you think about sending dollar bills up the chimney. You can get standard efficiency which I think is 85-90% or there abouts. And you can get the high efficiency models up to 98% or so. The higher efficiency comes from heat exchangers, burn rates and variable fan speeds. I put in an Amana 97% with the two stage heat. It is a very good furnace SO FAR. (Built by Goodman I think) My brother put in Rudd modulating furnace which is what I would do if I were to need another furnace. The Rudd has a modulating gas valve that allows variable burn rates instead of just high or low. It also has temp sensors so that it doesn't blow cold air out at you. If you have the money and desire, look at an AC unit that is also a heat pump for the spring and fall to save on fuel costs. I think you need a duel fuel option with your electric for that though. Just some of my ideas, thats all.
