Around LA (lower Alabama BABY!), 7" spacing disc's are preferred. They seem to do a better job of leveling (at least that's the common wisdom, never seen both work the same soil for a comparison). My ex paw in law said you couldn't run one in Black Land (praire soil, black belt in central AL) unless it was DRY. I sold one to a guy who uses it in those conditions though, and he LOVES his. He only uses it shallow to cover wheat.
