Fruita CO | I just finished doing a Quad-Range trans. in a 4240 that has been turbo'd for about 8000 hr...tore into it because it jumped out of D range. turns out it was a shifter cam that was made wrong from the factory. Got a look at the whole trans., & it was almost like new-no wear to speak of. Replaced the syncro disks & bearings on the top shaft just because it was out, other than that the trans. looks like it will go another 8K...this tractor pulls about 140HP, the pump is not turned up...at this altitude, all they do is smoke w/o the turbo. I've done about 5-6 4240's like this, & more 4230's then I can count...4440 turbo parts...No, it doesn't make a 4440 out of them, it just makes a good tractor out of a smokin' fuel hog...don't worry about the drive train, if you don't get crazy w/the pump, it won't hurt it. Yeah, some of the engine parts are different numbers than a 4440, but they will run w/a turbo...I've had to turn a couple of them up a little because they ran so lean they ran hot...absolutely zero smoke....
I've told this story so many times on here, I should just save it & repost it...along w/the breakaway couplers... | |
