Subject: RE: Value of corn stalk bales

Sioux County, NWIA
I make 72” bales, 3.25wraps. Been running NH balers for 15 years. Monitor is set at 70”, overrun will get them to 72”. Check that your bale size calibration is reasonably close. If that is on, then the windrow shape is likely your problem. Windrow needs to wide as the bale chamber and uniform in density across its width. A tall narrow windrow will burst out the net constantly unless the baler density is turned way down. If your windrow is well shaped, then you need to back the density down. Stalks are springy compared to hay. I never ran over 1400 psi with the BR balers, and less now with the 560s.
