Most of our bigger equipment that needs a hammer strap on the tractor has a heavier hitch / piece of steel that sits on the drawbar and takes the heavy weight . Also tends to come into the hammer strap more level , pin is tight in drawbar and not wearing it .
Lighter equipment the hammer strap on the equipment often has a hinge built into it , doesn’t sit level on drawbar, pin is crooked, wearing on the hole more .
Seems like every time switch equipment, never have the right hitch . Hammer strap or not / 2 or 3 point , 540 or 1000 .
This the pintle/hammer strap style tend to be rigid on the implement end and take the weight better. The mostly older clevis style is often hinged and a pain to hook up and wear pins and drawbars more. We have several of both and since the clevis hitches are hinged we just use a long pin and leave the hammer strap on the tractor. |
