 Thumb of Michigan | Looks like you are using over the edge type net wrap. My understanding is with over the edge, leave a gap for certain. Otherwise, rain follows the net over the edge.
When I stored my net wrap bales (over the edge), I found they had less spoilage with about 12" or more gap. That way snow didn't bridge the gap usually. I never used narrower net wrap (some call edge to edge).
The biggest problem with outside storage is moisture wicking up from the bottom of bales. I placed bales on electric poles, stone piles and pallets.
Also, in snowy areas, I found bales orientated North/South rows worked better. Ice on north side of net wrapped bales makes work for you, with East/West rows.
