SE Arkansas | There are several reasons. First of all, down here in the Delta, the best land was pretty darn flat when the Good Lord made it, requiring very little dirt work to precision level it. Most Pivots are on rolling ground that was simply uneconomical to cut with a Dirt Bucket and was generally not the best dirt. Not always the case, but the prime ground is generally pretty flat. Then you have the high heat down here. Even though our Wells are very productive, you usually need some rains to help the Pivot keep up and supply the Corn with ample moisture. Then of course you have the corners, which are dry land. My best guess on production is that Furrow Irrigated is about 20 bpa better than Pivot. Depends on the heat and rainfall.
