No experience with the Macdon head but the 4400 series heads are good. We found that the bunching at the front of the deck plates is caused by deck plate spacing, not shape. It seems they come from the factory with the stationary plate set in tight to the centerline of the row too far and dealers aren't moving them. They need to be slid out so the hydraulic plate can actually do its job, giving the corn stalk room to get in. Worked on 2 heads here.
