Southwest Illinois | I can't comment about the other heads, but the red head is pretty good. We had a 3400 that really was decent for us. It did butt shell plenty in dry corn but we were trying to run 6 to 7 mph with an 8 row head. We went to a 4408 and it is built a lot better, very similar to a geringhoff. 4400 series components were just heavier. Butt shelling in dry corn could still be an issue but I blame some of that on the speed we were trying to run. Despite the crappy resale value on a 12 row head compared to 8 row heads, we finally went to a 4412. We can run the head much slower which really helps on header loss. There are a few Drago heads in the area and guys seem to like them. Local red dealer sold red and Geringhoff. He said 10 years ago they sold 8 or 9 geringhoffs for every red head. Today he says its about 60-70% red. The MacDon head is fairly new and the reality is there is only going to be so much of a market for non OEM corn heads. We love our MacDon drapers but it has been because the red made drapers have been crap. Used to see a lot of green combines with MacDons and now we hardly see that in our area. Not saying they don't make a good corn head but I wouldn't want to be the one stuck with one if they can't.
