SE SD | One of the things I have seen is definitely the number of rootworm beetles in the neighborhood the previous growing season. I have also seen something of a trend with available phosphorous in the plant. There are varietal differences as well, but the more P the plant takes in there is less insect pressure. I have seen bean ground with low P have more RW pressure than COC with high available phos. One way to find out the available phos is a water soil test. There are a number of labs that do this.
