Cloverland, Wa | You’re right, they can get noisy. The old timers that farmed with cats were pretty well deaf or close to it. My grandpa was a prime example. My dad had pretty good hearing, but he was real good about using earplugs. I couldn’t ride unless I had some. The older cats, before salt rails, would really get squeaky tracks, one could barely hear the engine. Now the salt rails are really quiet, they just sort of clack. We never had cabs on any of our D4 farm cats. I had a D6C with a cab, it was just as loud as the open air tractors, maybe louder. | |
