The larger bulk of the corn is being released, all reasonable acres are off at this point and the majority of that was sample with a portion of it a grade #5. Some guys (a small percentage) have chosen to wait till spring on corn that has reasonable quality but excessive moisture. The balance of the corn that is still in the fields is toast and the only market it has is to be re-incarnated as fertilizer. Some soybeans did not come off in our area because of quality. We field tested all remaining corn acres today with the combine and had test weights of 240-260 grams/0.5 ltr cup which I believe is like 40-42 lbs with moisture ranges of 39-57% and to top it all off it is full of mold and smells like barf!! Sad way to harvest a crop, just the cards we were dealt with a frost on Sept 17th. Funny thing is I am looking forward to doing it all over again next year with just a few extra gray hairs from this year.
