If you are not part of the biggest group in any setting, you don't have as many connections that easily lead to other things.  That does not necessairly mean that those who do have the connections are out to get you.  It simply means you are at a disadvantage in that neck of the woods.  That's life.  No one gets a free ride all the time.  As time goes on, the reputation one earns can erase some of the disadvantages of being a minority.
