Subject: RE: soil finisher to replace a field cultivator and disc

Brookston, IN
We have a Tigermate 255 w/ 3 bar spike harrow and single rolling basket. We got it 3 years ago. It never got hooked to a tractor this spring, the first year we got it we could not get it to go through in worked bean stubble or VTed corn stalks, it was only good behind our 870. Most of our spring tillage is with a Great Plains Turbo Max. This spring I found a CaseIH 4200 much finisher and bought it reasonably priced. We ran it on a lot of bean stubble going to corn, it did a great job on the the patches where we had chickweed and was ok on the rest of the bean stubble but we felt the Great Plains left a better seed bed when we didn’t need to take out weeds. The plan for next year is to use the GP on most of the ground and use the 4200 on the weedy spots or where we need to do a bit of leveling. The Tigermate is my uncles who has retired and I couldn’t justify buying the Tigermate from him for what it is worth and the limited use it gets. The other nice thing for us is the 4200 goes on a tractor that was unused in the spring so when we had man power available we could run both at the same time.
