I’m sure it was impressive, but the damage to the case was relatively minor. I’ve had two explode and both blew the whole top off! One was like yours, hit the start button and it blew. The other one I caused connecting jumper cables.
Yes, batteries are small “dirty” bombs and are best kept in a battery enclosure and treated with caution at all times.
