Subject: RE: Get much erosion after peas and lentils?

Northern Idaho
No, we usually dont have bad erosion; we usually no-till winter wheat into the pea and lentil stubble but lots of other people cultivate and then seed and usually get by without much erosion. Right when the snow melts off in the spring is usually the worst time; there are a couple fields that always have a few small ditches in them regardless of residue levels.

We dont grow spring peas on our farm because prices are always so low that we can make more money on lentils and garbanzo beans. We have grown austrian winter or black peas the last couple years. Our wheat has only done 60-70bu the past two years, winter peas did 2400lb last year, 2200lb this year. Have had 3000lb peas before. I think people who grow spring peas typically get 1,800lb or so.
