Heresy! You're immoral, and possibly unethical! Not use lock washers? 'Common knowledge' says always use a lock washer, else you'll be black-balled from society. Even if it's older than you are, reused forty-eight times already, and flatter than a flat washer, or, better yet, it actually did 'bite' once when the nut was loosened, and is now kinda oval shaped and spread open, lock washers must be used and reused!

Yeah, that's me being a wise-acre. I hate lock washers. The rare one that actually does bite into the nut to hold it is worthwhile, but even then, it's a single-use item, and most of them won't bite. If it needs to stay, it needs lock-tight or a lock nut of some type.
