Fletcher, OH | I am trying to calibrate a new VGT actuator on a JD 9510R tractor (1RW9510RJCE004626). The turbo unison ring had issues which I repaired (a divot had worn in the ring where it rode against one of the spacing posts. Welded the divot shut with stainless rod. Ground flat. Checked for warpage. Reassembled). The mechanism works freely between the unison ring and actuator. This isn't my first rodeo with unison rings.
I'm getting ECM 641.13 codes for actuator travel error (which I had previous to the repair- old actuator). I need to reset the actuator learn values in the ECM. Service advisor interactive calibration says to start the relearn procedure, exit the calibration, key off 2 minutes, key on 30 seconds, key off two minutes, key on and start engine. Actuator will learn travel limits as coolant temperature warms.
I waited until coolant rose to 180 degrees. No audible change to the engine was heard indicating the calibration happened. Still getting the ECM 641.13 code plus the derate code.
I can watch the actuator move thru its full open/full closed cycle every time I key on and key off.
What am I doing wrong?
Is there another way to clear the old travel limits?
