Galahad, Alberta | We've been growing yellow and green field peas for over 20 years. First with an old Flexifoil 5000 and now with a New Holland air drill. It's a 50' 2070 drill with a 430 bu three-compartment tank. We typically run anywhere from 180-230 lbs/acre of peas out of two tanks using a coarse roller under the big tank and a fine roller under the medium-sized tank. Keep your speed down. We typically go 4.7 mph. Use lots of wind, as the fan slows down when you lower the drill and that's the time it plugs. So also don't raise the drill any higher than you need to so that it doesn't take so much time to put it back in the ground and run the risk of plugging. It takes a long time for the peas to get to the opener from the tank. Allow for this when you flick the switch to start seeding.
