Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | This will be our first year growing peas for a processor. Obviously, it will be our first year using our New Holland air seeder to do the job. (The New Holland air seeder is identical to the Case-IH air seeder..... so-we've-been-told.)
Processor wants us to plant 557,000 seeds per acre. They say the seed size should be 3300 seeds per pound. Calculates out to 169 pounds of seed.
Yesterday the processor mentioned how some of the farmers that had John Deere air seeders had a hard time getting the seeders to put on that much seed. He went as far as to say they could only get about a third of the required seed through the John Deere air seeders.
Not surprisingly.... I'd rather deal with this potential problem now, rather than waiting until the first day of planting.
Does anyone have experience with a New Holland air seeder planting peas similar to our required seeding rate, and with a seed count of around 3300 seeds per acre?
Any input with our situation will be much appreciated. Thank you.
