Shimmy1, so how would a veteran hook chain into those flip-up d-rings.....properly? Again, fastening to our typical stake pocket/rub rail setup seems natural. Come in from the bottom with the chain hook & it doesn't matter if the chain comes loose, hook won't let go. But, a chain hooked into itself can encounter problems it seems when hooked by novices.

I'll admit, I guess I need to learn more about fastening loads with our ratchet binders so that chain never encounters slack after initial tightening. Our loads are typically antique tractors or later model pulling tractors, of the farm-stock type. Tires squish out & drawbars flex down.

I'm open to learning.
