Subject: Tie-down chains to D-rings?

Chebanse, IL.....

What methods are there to attaching binder chains to these flip-up D-rings on a Kaufman trailer?

It seems that simply looping the chain through the ring & then hooking chain to itself would allow the chain to come unhooked if became slack somehow. I say this because if you use the chain spacers provided inside rub-rail type tie-downs, you can loop the chain UNDER the spacer, then back up to a stake pocket & hook with the hook pointing down. That way if the chain comes loose due to a flat tire on the tied down tractor, the chain will remain hooked, though slack has appeared. I realize that sometimes the load (assuming a tractor) is blocked up so the tires don't carry the load, or get squished. But, I'm guessing most local haulers don't practice that.

Is there a method to tie to these to keep the chain from coming unhooked? Maybe I'm missing the obvious.

Thanks
