Central, IL | A lot of wet corn hit the system all at once and every bushel had to be dried. Those wet bushels were very hard to dry on cold and wet days. The dryers were not only taking out the moisture in the corn but also the moisture in the air. The infrastructure could not handle it, elevators shut down early. Even if you had your own drying facility it was very slow. It was just something you had to work around.
Not to mention the muddy conditions and rain.
There was nothing about this year that was normal. Installing a drying system that would keep up this year would putting in a center pivot in case you have a drought in Illinois. In other words, thats a lot of money to spend and not use it every year.
We dry corn every year but never this amount of bushels or moisture level.
