Subject: RE: On farm cooler

E. Kansas
Some people I know that have a vineyard built their own large cooler a few years ago. They wanted it to be ground level to easily get boxes of grapes in and out, to cool the grapes ASAP after harvesting and to have plenty of space to store grapes until ready to ship the next load to the winery.

They got a shipping container, to have a strong container and have minimal structural concerns and good overall sealing issues. It was insulated on the outside to preserve the full storage volume, and the outside cover over the insulation was painted white. They used off-the-shelf a/c systems sized to handle their cooling requirements and have it all outfitted with lots of monitoring so they can just check their phones at any time to see temperatures/etc and can be alerted if anything is going wrong. For their use, it has worked quite well and wasn't cost prohibitive. However, this was all done pre-covid, so who knows what everything might cost now and what the availability of anything they used would be now.
