in kansas all i need is a final stand of 100-115000 in 30 inch rows, socking the rates does not do anything for me except add to the seed bill, we do drill conv soys yet, i try to shoot for around 145000 in 7.5 inch rows, the extra plants per acre in the drilled beans does help shade the ground and keep back the weeds.
