GAT is suppose to metabolize the glyphosate so it is less harmful to the plant and prevents the ALS from binding....so better crop safety w/ALS tolerance to handle Glyphosate resistance in some weeds like ragweed, etc.
Pio was not satisfied with the performance of their products that carry the GAT gene...so they are delaying release until they can clean it up. This happends when companies bring new techs to the market...it cannot be done over night and it must be done right....with no yield drag.

Look at it this way....there are just so many chromosomes in a plant....you insert something, something has to give and sometimes it has a negative affect on yield.....and when that happens, we pay the price and it kills the tech. So smart play on their part is to hold back until it works right. they have too much invested to kill it right out of the blocks. They cannot afford a misfire.

Challenge in the chem and seed sector is so many got addicted to using RR that chem companies did not have the $$ in R&D to create new chem platforms. I recall when RR first came out.....it went like wildfire in SD...like a bad drug....now that we are seeing weed issues, we have to wean ourselves of the RR habit and spend more time managing our weed control.....and that requires more time and $$ invested...not something we like to do, but a reality. We cannot save ourselves rich.....we have to produce ourselves wealthy and we cannot do that by cutting corners just to make it more simple.

Sorry if I offended anyone....not my intention! RR is still a good option in weed control....but not the only. Good luck.
