Subject: Automatic levelers...

NW Washington
They are all automatically leveled these days, usually with a manual over ride. Various methods have been used over the years, like mercury actuated switches, pots of water and and even a pendulum in a bucket of oil (IH). Now you can buy a little electronic "inclinometer" which will sense the situation and sent signals to a processor. The first JD 55 Hillside was manually leveled but that was well over 50 years ago.
BTW, some autosteer systems use inclinometers to correct on sloping ground because the antenna on top of the cab is not right over where you should be on a hillside.
Hillco in Nez Perce Idaho, not far from where these picture were taken is the main maker or combine levelers these days as all the combine makers have gotten out of the business. The 6622's in these pictures were the last JD made levelers.
