Subject: Why? Because the Nature Conservancy

Wanted to re-establish some migratory patterns as well as ( in their minds) restore it to how it was a couple centuries ago.

To flood it, they didn’t cut the levee, they just quit pumping the water out that was trapped behind the levee. Personally, I never thought it would work. But, a few wet years at the time, and I now suspect there was more water from the river seeping underneath the levee and coming up behind it. As far as I know, before the levee was built, the River would occasionally flood the entire area, then as the river dropped back, the water would quickly run off, except in a couple areas that were called lakes. (Thompson and Flagg, I think) Like I was told, even those “lakes” were farmed if they dried up soon enough. Overall, I would guess the new lake is only a few feet deep, 5-8 maybe.
