Farmington IL | Illfarmer up above pretty well covered it. At one time they were probably in excess of 20k acres when most guys farmed 3-500. Huge equipment. Quite the showplace. Had the fanciest cattle feedlot in this part of the world. Acres and acres and acres of concrete. The main farm was around 5K acres in one chunk, river bottom with irrigation, had a big grain set up for the time. Huge shop. First place I saw plant with articulated tractors. The end was ugly. Ruined it all. Maybe by design. Natures Conservancy ended up with the main farm between the state road and the river. Tore everything down and flooded it. US government bought some and it’s under water. The south farm was sold and is still farm land. Not sure who owns the chunk west of the highway towards Dickson mounds. It’s under water too. There was a piece that Wilder owned up near the Quad Cities come to think of it. They rented ground as well. It was something to see back in the day!
