On analogy I heard which is pretty fitting for both the trade war and for covid shut downs is: If someone drives their pickup into your house you expect compensation for them doing that. You can look at the trade war and covid as the pickup and the government was driving. They reeked havoc on our markets so there is no reason that we shouldnt have been compensated for them doing it.
