S Illinois | I believe you're being duped with the IL claim. Wind power in IL provides roughly the same power as NG power plants and in 2020 was around 8-9% of IL electicity production. Springfield has around 120k people and its industrial production isn't anything out of the ordinary. This is 1% of IL's population, but add some more for industry so maybe 3-4%maybe of total IL energy . Would be hard to believe that 8% of current IL electric power generation wouldn't provide enough to power Springfield. If we want to go further down the line to make all things electric-so all heating sources, vehicles, etc then it maybe a different story, but as of now that's not the case.
Edit: EIA data. https://www.eia.gov/state/?sid=IL#tabs-4
