MN | One of John Deere's poorest products- the 2720 on 30" centers will not leave the field level- you notice it in the sprayer and the planter- the adjustability between the gangs and the shanks is a joke. The disc gangs are bolted solid to the frame- no spring or hydraulic cushion. The only way you can adjust the ripper shanks vs the disc gangs is taking both bolts out of every shank and moving the shank depth- Very frustrating in adverse conditions, mud and slightly frozen ground. They eat the front disc bearings because the only give in the disc gang is the C shanks. This also causes increased blade breakage/bending when you encounter rocks. Just plan on putting bearings in every year- we had a 9 shank going over 2000 acres every year. Notorious for getting rocks stuck between blades and when you pop up a big rock with the shanks the back gang will drag it across the field leaving a big rut. They are a lot cheaper that the alternative machines- and they should be- they are really reasonable used because of their reputation. The positives are that the frame is heavy built and you can get more acres done with it because of the wider machine width because the 30" centers- this saves on fuel and labor per acre and hours on the tractor. | |
