Northeast Indiana | We had a 7 shank 2730 last year and traded into a 9 shank 2720 for this last fall. We also installed the internal scraper kit and would say it is a must have. The 2720 with 9 shanks pulls just as easy as the 7 shank 2730 pulled. While it doesn't crumble the ground quite as well as the 2730 or an 875 or Dominator, if set correctly it levels well. We found upping the hydraulic pressure on the rolling baskets really helps with leveling and clod size, though it still leaves the ground a bit more cloddy than the other tools mentioned. We are pulling the 9 shank 2720 with a chipped 9510rt and with the extra 8.5ft of width, we're able to work close to 20acres/hour while the tool is in the ground and running the shanks at 12". Yes the shanks are further apart than the other tools, but I feel we're still accomplishing what we want by breaking up compaction and allowing the frost to get down deeper into the ground. We do a lot of corn on corn and by running a disc ripper through the corn stalks it sets us up where we aren't seeing really any yield loss for corn on corn vs corn/soybean rotation. 80% of our corn acres this last year was corn on corn and we had those fields yielding 270-290bu/acre whole field averages. | |
