| Dgosse, you might be better off sticking to the PTO pump plan. The thing about the IH 06-86 series (with the exception of the disastrous PFC venture) is that they want to furnish 12 (15-gpm optional) through the hydraulics continually. When you need to "split off" 8 GPM to use for an orbital motor or other circuit, you HAVE to do something with the remaining GPM's. You can't just plumb the 8 GPM to go through the motor and expect the other 4 gallons to sit there nice & quiet. What happens is that the system pressure builds up to the relief valve setting, typically 2250 PSI on a 1086, and dumps that excess 4 gallons back into the sump. This causes rapid heat buildup followed by hydraulic pump destruction. Very few planters and other implements were factory-rigged to work with open-center hydraulic systems; that would require a priority variableflow divider valve to "split" the incoming flow from the tractor and it costs the manufacturer more money to install it. What most planters do have is a flow-limiter valve which is basically a fancy adjustable orifice which restricts incoming hydraulic flow so the blower speed can be controlled. One of these valves will be a disaster with your open-center 1086. I'll say in advance that I'm not familiar with your planter; maybe it does have a flow divider valve installed as a factory option.
You can obtain a priority variable flow divider valve from several aftermarket vendors, which could be used to adjust your blower speed and from which the return could be routed to sump. But as other posters have already mentioned, the 86 series were just really not designed for full-time use with orbital hydraulic systems. They simply don't have sufficient flow and they lack he ability to get rid of the heat generated in these operations. Plus every time you need to raise the hitch or use a remote valves for other functions, you would most likely be shutting off the fan to have enough flow & pressure to do it.
I think the PTO pump circuit would be the best way to go. And even at 8 GPM, you are probably going to need a hydraulic oil cooler. Good luck! Redwrench | |
