Why on earth would you want to fight these potential headaches? Pto pumps, extra bypass valves, sorry fittings and valves are expensive only to not work when it's 90 out and you need to be cultivating....
I appreciate all the concern as to getting a 4440 or a 7120, and I agree 100%. However it's not as simple as "spend a little more up front". This tractor is in great shape, and you can't buy junk 1086s for the price we're paying. It does have working AC, actually, and the cab is all re done and nice and comfortable.
I would love to have a Magnum instead but that is well over double the budget. You can't spend what you don't have.
Anyway, I found a pump, flow control valve and reservoir for $1500. Thinking I'm going to go that route. I know a couple of you have said it *should* work, but when I need to be cultivating I can't bank on should. It is off of a planter of some sort - so I figure that will work well. As for needing a cooler - I haven't seen that on planters so I didn't think it would be necessary. I haven't been around a whole lot of that sort of planter though so I could be wrong.
I have used PTO hydraulic pumps before. Not a big deal. Never had any issues with them except for one that the insert got ground off because it slipped half way off of the PTO!
Anyway keep up with the input on this! I appreciate all advise - but this is what we have to do. This tractor has to do this job for now until we can afford better.
