Subject: RE: Hay saving round bale feeders

Nebraska
I have a S.I. Feeeder not a Notch but same basic idea. I have had it for more than 10 years and it is not waste free but for sure better than rings. Used to scoop it out once a year, now just flip it over to clean out. Handles it fine. Used it alot when I had less cattle. Been a good purchase.

Most of the time now, I use a Hydrabed and unroll for cows or use TMR feedwagon if they’re close since it’s fired up for growyard anyway, but if I want to leave more than one days worth though we typically use SI feeder instead of rings for the cows. Unroll a couple and then leave 3 in the SI to snack on after they eat what was strung our. Like any feeder, too many head on it will increase the waste because the cattle get pushed away before they get it eaten and drop some.
