Subject: RE: Vacuum cool vs mixed flow grain dryer

SE MN
Had a Sukup vacuum cool dryer and only way I could get any capacity out of it was to run it in full heat, so that defeated the purpose of the vacuum cool. Had to wash screens quite often during season to keep capacity up. (miserable job!) Replaced it with a MC Delta mixed flow dryer in 2020. After 2 seasons with mixed flow I wouldn't go back to a dryer with screens. As far as the mess at the end of the season I clean up less around my mixed flow dryer than I did with the screened type. There are more bees wings/reds in the yard but they do blow away eventually. My corn comes out with better test weight and the moisture is so much more consistent. I am dumping at ambient temp which I like. Dumping hot in cold weather always scared me with the ice that formed on the bins. The most important thing with a dryer is the service you get when you have problems!
