Subject: RE: Vacuum cool vs mixed flow grain dryer

Nw Iowa
We have tower dryers all the way from a bunch of old Kansans to a new Zimmerman. I would probably prefer a screenless but they make a mess and where we are located have close by neighbors. Really like the new Zimmerman, very quiet, controls pretty easy to get on to. Farm fans makes a very similar dryer but use cheaper proprietary controls where as Zimmerman is pretty much Allen Bradley. Last year first year and not a very good test, short crop and dried only about 150 hrs, we still dry over half threw the old Kansans because of location. Next year will hopefully give it a better test. Dryers I thought were priced crazy last year and just plain nuts this year. We were talking about replacing two of the Kansans where dust wouldn’t be so Much of a problem with a Sukup screenless and dryer salesmen said that the model he priced last dec for 115000 was now closer to 185000. One problem with tower dryers is the high fill height if you have a higher capacity one and of course the bees wings sticking on a cold wet fall.
