I doubt the little extra speed you're gaining is helping you through the wet spots, lugging the machine down like that can't be good on the threshing and separation either.
For what it's worth, when we get stuck, we pull out in first gear. If it will move at 6-8 mph. it will move at 1-2 mph. and it's a lot easier on the equipment too.
