First set: home raised 103 head mixed sex. Gave me some static off and on all summer. Mostly pink eye or hoof rot. Vaccinated the day they were weaned. Treated 2 pink eye and one sore foot the first 3 weeks of weaning, zilch ever since.
Second set, 800 mile haul bawlers. October 1. 116 head of steers. Rancher gave 7 way and Bovi gold 5 one shot 28 days before shipping. Gave my program (straight vista 5) 24 hrs after shipping. 100% hands off! Zero treats.
Third set. 600 mile haul. 478 head. Branding shots only. 7 way/ bovi gold 5. Gave my program (vista 5 one). Rancher shipped one calf that was questionable. (Discounted if survives). I treated that calf the day we vaccinated. Other than that I’ve pulled 3 calves.
4th set. 115 mile haul. Arrived last Saturday. 52 hfrs/72 steers. Full brand/precondition program at ranch. Gave my full program. Been a SOB! Mass treated the steers yesterday. Treated 12 heifers today. They are on the turn around and no death loss. But I’m pissed! Conversation with vet………way too warm this week, and it’s anyone guess. I think I’m over the hump tonight. Mass treated steers with Zuorevo until I ran out then switched to Draxxin. Have re-pulled 2 they got baytril, dex, prevail. One steer was not responding so he bonged 10 pumps of electro mixed in 3 gallons water. Retreated with Nuflor today.
5th set. One load came in Friday night, second load tomorrow night. (Big end of steers off two different ranches). Lite steers and heifers (2 loads of each) arrive at year end. These calves were weaned Oct 1. 3 rounds of shots at the ranch, plus alpha 7 at birth. Full wormer program with 45 days of implant left in the ear…………..I’m not touching them.
Fed zero feed grade treatments (AS700/CTC) this year so far. Have never fed decoxx at the feedyard in my life.
All calves are penned by ranch and sex and will not be intermingled for for at least another 2 weeks. Then the big size’m up sort happens.
Zero dead’s for the year! Not counting a steer that had to be put down immediately after unloading. Broke his jaw at the ranch corrals and somehow he got on the truck. Rancher called and said he was on and I did not pay for him. Fingers still crossed but feel like we are over the hump.
