I think this is what some folks were talking about when they said you were missing the point.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord.
I have sinned. I deserve death. I am grateful and humbled that Jesus took my punishment for me. That is what matters to me. And, it is a gift available to anyone willing to accept it.
I had a friend once say, "God is like your judge and Jesus is like your lawyer." I liked that.
No where in Scripture is Christ painted as a lawyer. In a court of law, lawyers cannot take the punishment of the criminal they are defending, which is exactly what Christ did with his atoning death. Our sin, past, present, and future, placed on Him, and he bore the wrath of God on our behalf on the cross. In turn, his perfect righteousness placed on us through faith. Double imputation, the lynchpin of salvation. By grace, through faith.
Just because we hear something we like, doesn't always make it true. Our selfish, sinful hearts are deceptive. Too many people like to make cute and cuddly saying about the Triune God. He's not what we want Him to be, He's not our genie in a bottle. | |
