Holy crap! Who cares. I’m on board with happy catcher. I think the skin color and looks of Jesus could be skewed. Does it really matter though? As a practicing Catholic I can tell you that a crucifix is simply an image that reminds us of Jesus. It may not be historically accurate but we still understand the image. I do find this an interesting topic. My mother was church of Christ and would never have pictures of Jesus around because she said we didn’t know what Jesus looked like. I think that church went a bit far on that stuff.
There are actually quite a few people who do not believe we should try to portray what Jesus looked like. Also, Mormons do no wear crosses or use them as decoration. They believe it symbolizes his torture and death and is a tragic thing. I learned this when I gave one of my Mormon friends a cross necklace for her birthday. Another interesting thing, most likely the cross Jesus was hung on was not the shape we think of today. It was a large pile with no arms. |
