You are right Jacob, scouting the field based on the imagery is very important before applying management with it. Unfortunately there are service providers out there that will build a grower a VRT Rx without ever stepping foot in the field or testing any soil. This really gives the whole concept a bad taste in the eyes of those who bit hard into it with limited results.
