Change Rittenhouse's race from white to black, nothing else, and I'd still be rejoicing that his right to defend himself was upheld.
And the argument will remain, he shouldn't have been there vs he defended himself. Maybe he shouldn't have been there and he defended himself. But if he had not been there, he'd have had no reason to defend himself. He wasn't minding his own business walking down the street and then attacked. He placed himself in a situation he shouldn't have been and a terrible tragedy followed. But since the beginning of the establishments of government, people have viewed things differently, especially social issues. We have two major political parties in this country that are constantly at each other's throats. And we are very easily taken up by watching them duel it out in the media. It makes us forget most of us are more alike than different. And that's exactly what they want. |
